Maria was incredibly hospitable, allowing us to poke around and share her workspace for a few hours. Afterwards, we were invited in to her beautiful, cozy home. She shared the story of how she got started slowly, while trying to raise 2 children on her own and working everyday in a factory. We were able to meet her son, who kindly helped with some difficult translations. Now that her children have grown, she is able to devote more time to make the things she loves and, with her successes thus far, is now free to explore new designs. While she talked we noticed a box of ceramic leaves and parts to pieces she was making tucked under the coffee table. "Oh yes!" she said. "They are all over the house. Wherever I am, I am constantly working."

Maria shared with us some of her homemade liquor she had made herself with sour cherries and a bit of cinnamon. It was the BEST liquor I have EVER tasted! Here you can see more photos of her works from inside her cheery home and workshop.
